It’s the eve of the big election. I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was stressed out. Sometimes I wish we lived in less interesting times. So how about we talk about some webcomics instead?

What Fikra is actually picking up is the lack of danger. Considering how much these wild dogs have been harassed by larger predators, I’d figured their absence would make her happy. Kitendo and Thabiti certainly don’t mind. That said, it’s good to be both cautious and curious. If some awful fate has befallen the predators, best to know now so that adversity can be planned around. Regardless, this section serves as dramatic irony as we know the hyenas are going through their own drama, Africa is at the gorge bonding with Mosi, and no one knows Chui is back. As for the lion pride, we haven’t really seen them since they stole the wild dogs’ kill. That was recently, so maybe they’re satisfied?
What does trouble me is the report of hyenas eating their own. Are they referencing Safari? He lived with the hyenas, and last we saw his body Nuru was about to feast on it with her cubs. Or has someone else in the clan died? I guess we’ll find out via Fikra’s upcoming adventure. I wonder if her siblings will come along?

After my complaining last week, it turns out all I had to do was wait one more update and I would have had my answer about Moon Lupi. Tussle just walks up and asks why they’re a puppy. Turns out the moon is weak, which is why its avatar is a puppy instead of a full-grown adult. The sun is also weaker, which explains why puppies haven’t been born, and the islands are falling into the void. I find it amusing that Flare is asking if it is their fault.
Yes it is. Well, in terms of the Nova’s bad behavior when they decided to blow up the moon in the past. Sun Lupi clarifies that the sun and the moon were responsible for making the world, so naturally they’re at their strongest together. Also, if the sun is slowly getting weaker, at some point would they have been reborn as a puppy as well? The story doesn’t need to answer this, it’s just fun for me to think about.
Meanwhile, I’m glad to see Hearth giving Trouble closure about Backlash. Of course the big-hearted Dusky would have forgiven the wolf that almost accidentally killed him. Backlash was a very empathetic fellow. Hopefully, that’s some kind of comfort to Trouble. I was also certain that Hearth (and maybe Trouble) would go with both sets of Lupi. Instead, the sun insists he stay behind to show how Nova and Dusky can get along, as all isn’t well in this mix packed. I’m actually surprised some of the more zealous Supernova stayed with Cloud’s pack, but perhaps they have nowhere to go now that Scorch is in wolf jail.
Hearth’s purpose in the story is now a bit clearer. He wasn’t meant to be another traveling companion for the main group. He stayed with them long enough to understand that Dusky and Nova aren’t that different, fall in love with Backlash, and to use those positive experiences to show the Supernova a better way as their new leader. Trouble surviving also helps that. It’s a neat bit of redemption for him.
On a final note, I feel bad that Danger even has to ask if there will be a place for her pups in the new world. According to Lupi’s memories of the OG Lupi, the answer is a resounding “yes,” but she doesn’t know that yet.

Okpara’s description of her leader is downright terrifying. Half of Kae-Kiirin children are normal, and the other half are taken away to be “enhanced.” I’m still going on the assumption that their leader is none other than a twisted Hedgeworth. So perhaps he’s building his own army of vicious lizard people to protect himself. Maybe they’re experiments for the Black Idol, or maybe he somehow uses them to extend his own life. How, I’m not sure. The fact that no one knows what happens to half their children is worrisome.
Worse, no one even knows what Hedgeworth is aside from being part Earthling, part Kae-Kiirin and something else. I’m still betting he’s a mixture of the feral bug aliens and The Black Idol. Perhaps something that is simultaneously a singular mind and a hivemind. Hell, he could be the mouthpiece of the Black Idol for the Kae-Kiirin, and they don’t even know it. He could even be directing all the awful events that have happened in The Order of the Black Dog up until now. Whenever the reveal happens it’s going to be big.

We have another bit of lore dropped about the world. It appears the majority of dogs have lost the ability to hear high-pitched frequencies. The dogs still able to hear these noises can understand creatures such as rats. Which leads to more lore such as rats being the ones to repair (and perhaps create) equipment. It makes sense because while these dogs have flexible paws, they’re not quite flexible enough for fine motor skills. I wonder what other types of animals help out the dogs?
I’m also curious as to what Motte was going to say about her previous job before Tulpi cut her off. We know a bit about Tulpi’s past, but Motte is still a mystery. I still stand by my theory that she was once part of a gang, which is why the two of them are fleeing now. One of these days we’ll learn more about the Borzoi-mix’s backstory and it will be glorious.

Let’s get right to the heart of this page. Eve’s grin is as unsettling as it gets. It’s also a clue that she might not be so neutral. It’s the fact that she grins right after Antaras uses Loss on Gitta and Prue. Is she grinning because she enjoys seeing Loss do his thing? Is she happy that Antaras has severed another connection in their group? Could she be smiling because she knows that Usma saw everything and that Antaras may very well unleash the captured star on his own daughter? If that happens, it would just be him and Eve, and she could be free to manipulate him without any other mortals getting in the way. Honestly, it’s too soon to tell other than this fallen star being up to no good.
As for Usma, I would have expected her to be surprised or perhaps even turn to run. Instead, she almost seems indifferent to seeing not only Helevise’s former students dead, but the two other deer as well. Has she just grown indifferent after Helevise’s death? Or is she silently terrified and trying to play cool as she figures out a way to extract herself from this messy situation? Either way I’m concerned about Antaras approaching Usma, especially given his expression in the third panel. Is he about to make some excuses for his actions or some unreasonable demands of his daughter? I’m not convinced that he’d actually unleash Loss on her.

Given Home’s update schedule, new public pages now release on Mondays. Since Sundays are my cutoff for these roundups, I’m going to be a week behind for the remainder of November.
I can’t get over the fact that dogs in this comic use their noses so selectively. Also, Kargo was facing left in the third panel, now he’s suddenly facing right in the forth panel. An indication that Kargo heard a noise in the third panel, while turning to face Ferah in the forth panel would have made the transition less jarring. Otherwise, it’s endearing to see the two of them back to having a playful relationship.
Though it strikes me as weird that Ferah is allowed to visit and provide Nordgarde with extra help, and Keirr hasn’t even visited his family since the tribe moved. You know, Ronja being his first cousin, and her daughters also being his cousins? I’m pretty sure Fraujar would allow it. Hell, if Keirr asked, I’m sure Fraujar would even let him join his family in Ronja’s tribe. After all, he told Raun and Arnfold to stay to provide help, and they’re listed on the wiki as members now. But family relationships in Home continue to be absolute dogshit.
As for Ferah and Kargo’s conversation, we’re once again setting up the threesome. Right here Kargo reveals that he still has feelings for Roamer, and it’s difficult for him to have self-control. I’m having a hard time believing that this is the same dog who waited for Roamer and took things at the younger dog’s pace. Seems like he has plenty of self-control, unlike Rogio who immediately pressured Roamer into having sex. Mind you, Rogio and Roamer had only been traveling together for a few days, and the former knew the latter still had feelings for Kargo. Anyway, this bit of dialogue will justify Kargo’s decision to immediately accept Rogio’s suggestion that he become a part of their relationship.
