Today’s update of Home was special because after 450+ pages, Jahla finally uttered the name of her partner, Rhovanion. It took a moment between Jahla and Romé as they shared an intimate stare for her to finally come clean. Given how little Jahla almost never mentioned she had a mate or bothered to say his name, it was only natural to wonder if she still cared. In all the time she spent with Thakir, Follun, and now Romé, she never brought this detail up until today’s page. I’m glad this happened as if felt like Kique was going to have her cheat with Romé without, but the lead up to today’s page still doesn’t sit well with me.

First, Romé damn near confesses his love to Jahla by declaring he’d do anything for her. He barely knows her. He howled for months and she came to his tribe, Ravencrest. I already wrote about how that scenario played out and why it didn’t work for me. He leaves with her and immediately she spends more time with him and trusts him more than Thakir and Follun. Jahla took Romé instead of Thakir to the Tinget and she began to rely on this dog for advice, over someone who knew her and her Akiulfr family better. As Nabisco Parodies said best, Romé was created just to agree with Jahla.

Suddenly, it seems like she feels guilty about getting close to him. As she should. She left Rhov after an argument, said she needed some time alone, then spent months not looking for him or her family. She then agreed to take on a tribe building mission from the Matriarch instead of continuing to look for her family and mate. I mean, wasn’t she and Rhov supposed to takeover leadership of the Asmundr pack? Since Jahla left the Akiulfr island and met Romé it feels like her personality has been on a downward spiral. She’s no longer concerned about her family, her partner, or anything else. She’s just wanted to bask in the praise of a stranger from Earth who agrees with everything she says.
At this point, I don’t have any hope of Jahla and Rhov being reunited as partners. Sure, she’s mentioned his name, but what would a reunion between the two even look like? Would they actually grow and learn? Would they go on like they hadn’t been been separated? Or would they actually break up? It feels like Kique is still pushing the Jahla x Romé and Rhov x Feaf ships. Which is a shame because Jahla and Rhov were one of his strongest couples from Asmundr.

Yea, Rome is nothing but a “yes” man. He doesn’t challenge Jahla in anyway. Rhov did and now everything that was hyped about them is thrown under the carpet because Kique can’t write.
Especially, in reference to long term couples. Having disagreements and overcoming them is not something Kique can write about, he just swaps roles/partners for all his characters. A strong emotional scene comes up then Kique dissolves the tension with an unnecessary action scene. As an author he still did not develop the understanding of taking each scenario and developing through the character. So many pages and so much dissociation between plot points. If nothing shown then it is offscreen lol (use your imagination why don’t you). Terrible writing time and time again. I think it is time to stop reading. xD
This. Things just happen without any character growth, they rarely grow and learn from problems. They just make decisions as needed for the plot. I hear you in terms of stopping reading, this story is going nowhere.
As someone who is a big fan of romance, the romance Kique does disgusts me. It seems to me that he grows tired of couples and characters and decide to change them in the spot. Rhov and Jahla werent the best written romance out there for sure but it was one of the best in the whole of Asmundr and Home but now what? They get separated for two months and their feelings for each other disolve. Excuse me WHAT THE F? how is the love between these two which were actually super strong and went trhoug a lot together go away with an stupid argument and three month of being away? Its not even realistic in real life terms. I have seen stories where the characters were separated for years and their love was still there‚ its something beautiful. But in Home the characters are so bad this cannot happen. Rhovanion barely appears now‚ its like Kique grew tired of Rhov and his love with Jahla and decided to change him for a *cough* new self insert. Same with Roamer and Kargo‚ they went throug development (again not the best but kind of nice) and in an stupid argument they split up? And Roamer got with turd face Roger because it was his new fave or something. Im *sigh* thats not how its done. Sure you can change your mind about things on the story but If you do then have a proper development for gods shake. If you decide to add romance then do it good! And more if its an important part to the plot! The love plots on this comic makes me cringe and thats not common on me. Jahla never mentioning Rhov makes me mad‚ the logical thing to do in her situation is to look for her mate now that she knows where he may been. She asked Ronja and she told her! But she hasnt done anything about it. “Oh yeah my hubby is actually alive after months now knowing what happened to him nice I wont do anything about it (i love him I swear)” Seriously If you have a partner you worry about them and want to stay with them. Jahla just does not care at this point. Can we also talk about how much a “gary stu” Romé is? I dont dislike him but wow the guy does not have flaws ‚ unless maybe being the yes maam of Jahla‚ wait‚ maybe that is right and having a partner who says yes to everything you say is better than someone who questions your choices and challenges you to become a better version of yourself. Thanks for saving Romance Kique.
This ended up becoming a rant and I apologize lol
No worries, rant if you need to. It’s clear Kique prefers relationships where everyone agrees and no one questions or challenges each other. Characters don’t develop at all or seem to care about each other for the most part. Romance is confused with infatuation/lust.
This comic is going to nowhere. He is writing for 6 years already or something like. Its annoying already. I lost my interest for it since the writer ego is so high that thinks he is juvenile george martin and write like a drunk cockroach. Its boring and he keeps finding reasons to not upload free content and his patreon is a total waste of money (my own experience).
I feel you. If it weren’t for Home discussion groups, I would have dropped this comic a long time ago. At least there we can freely criticize it without worrying about the author or his hardcore fans.
