I’ve got nothing in terms of news on the comic front. So let’s just get right to the round up.

This is Faida’s last stand as she’s launched herself at Kauket. I suppose the lioness isn’t all gone if she was smart enough to initially ignore the former matriarch. Though she certainly didn’t see the old hyena’s attack coming. It was smart of Faida to bite an already injured paw. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to stop the lion from clamping down on the back of her neck. I’m pretty sure that bite is fatal. Meanwhile, I don’t think Faida’s bite was strong enough to break Kauket’s paw. Let’s just hope this was enough to discourage her from going any further, as having an injury attacked must feel pretty bad.

On a more technical note, I do love how Arven has played with the borders on the third panel. The jaggedness is a nice touch right as Faida hits her mark, then the ensuing chaos below as Kauket counterattacks.

Anyway, an amazing last stand from an amazing matriarch. She made some bad decisions, but in the end cared deeply about the survival of her clan.

I do find it funny that Hake wonders why Petrel would be mad at Trout, while Trout just doesn’t answer. Oh, my sweet prince, you had to be there to understand. That said, the future queen’s need to please people is showing here, even with Petrel. It makes me wonder if she’ll try to apologize to the Daisy in the future. We can also see that she has a crush on Skua quite early. Just look at those eyes as she passes him by. I wonder if his feelings for her were already mutual?

I can feel Auklet’s disappointment. I’m certain he’s ready for his brother to go as much as Sturgeon is. Hell, maybe he wishes Petrel’s attack didn’t fail. That said, I wonder if Sturgeon had caught such a big bird, if she would have actually taken it to the king. I feel like she’d not want to risk anyone else sharing poisoned meat, or would be worried about her father finding the lavender. More than likely, she’d probably split the meal with Petrel and Egret. In this case it’s a good thing Sturgeon didn’t bring this bird if he’s going to be sharing a meal with his brother. That said, if others keep bringing meals to the king, that means he’s not being poisoned fast enough.

Not that it matters, as we already know that Thresher meets his end via tribute to the sea. The bigger mystery is what happens to Auklet as he’s not seen in the present at all– even at the king’s send off. I’m wondering if he realizes Sturgeon’s method is taking too long, or is too risky, and does something else instead? (Something that ultimately fails.)

We finally have our answer regarding Eve and bringing Oudia back from the dead. This particular god of life cannot do anything about life that has already been swallowed by Loss. She can only bring life to new things. Though I’m curious. She mentioned bringing back the dead. I wonder if that’s an ability that only Karuna possesses– if it’s even possible. Or it could be that to revive the dead, Eve must literally control their bodies, like what she did with the dead Halvs at the gathering, as confirmed by DoePrince on this page.

While I was correct in my assessment about Eve’s abilities (it was hinted at this entire time), I did not see Antaras begging. I’d assumed as the proud stag who comes from a line of deer that know how to wound and bind gods,he would continue to make demands. That said, I guess it’s not practical to demand the impossible. So begging is the last resort, and it’s not because he wants to be happy, but he wants to see his mate happy again. Before tragedy struck, she was happy they finally were able to conceive and were about to have another child. He’s even willing to have Eve do whatever to him in exchange for the four of them being a family again.

Amazingly Eve seems intrigued by the fawn, as she can do something about the unborn. However, Loss seems unhappy about whatever its sister is about to propose. I’m going to wager that Eve was the one who made the deal with Antaras, and it’s likely more than just giving birth to his fawn. Surely, she’ll have him give something up in exchange for the favor. Though it makes me curious as to why she stopped talking to him after entering Oudia’s body. We’ll know soon enough!

I do like how in the second panel Loss just looms ominously. It has no muscles or skin to make a menacing face, so the perspective is just perfect. I also feel awful for Usma. She hasn’t looked at Oudia’s frozen corpse once, and has just remained turned around with her eyes shut for the entire scene.

I find it funny that Iberón allowed Alva and Javo to share a meal, but is angry that they stayed. Perhaps he should have just sent them off. Or if he truly felt bad, but also annoyed at their presence, just allowed them to take some meat and then told them to get lost. Siqhaala is the voice of reason here, and she’s not wrong. Alva and Javo are harmless and helping them is the right thing to do.

Even so, this page feels like there needed to be a reason why Iberón hasn’t picked up Rogio’s scent yet despite lingering around Meteor Tribe territory. Instead of investigating, he has to stay in place because for whatever reason he can’t know that his brother is still alive. Normally, I don’t think I would mind this, but it feels so obvious and forced instead of it feeling like a natural consequence of the current plot. Basically, Iberón can’t discover his kin is still alive, so there has to be a reason why he can’t leave Meteor territory or investigate. He has to take care of two starving dogs, and I’m guessing because he’s sweet on, or cares about Siq, he won’t leave her alone with two strangers while he investigates.

If the reason the two had to stay put was because of Ranach’s rebellion being too uncomfortably close, and not wanting to run into members of the tribe they just abandoned, I’d be fine with it. The reasoning wouldn’t feel like it came out of nowhere. Yet, I feel like Kique won’t go down this path because it means Ranach would be lingering around his old tribe, and readers might be asking too many questions. Questions like if Ranach would notice Rogio’s scent, or why he even refuses to believe that his old lover is alive. Of course there’s nothing really stopping Iberón from picking up his brother’s scent either even as he looks after Alva and Javo.

Honestly, this entire plot point of characters thinking Rogio is dead has run its course. Even so, we’re being forced to sit with it until Kique finally does a bit reveal, and the lead up to that eventual reveal hasn’t been particularly exciting.
