July has come already. I hope those of you who celebrated the holiday on the 4th had a fantastic time and (hopefully) an extended weekend. I managed to get a lot of relaxation in by catching up on video games and sleep.

Kintendo is a lucky dog indeed. The lions could have gone for him directly, but instead they’re playing tug of war with the gemsbok. (Poor thing is probably dead now.) Helping the wild dog is the fact that the ground is unstable, so the lions aren’t really getting good purchase. Still, I’m amazed he managed to hold on to his prey against three lions. Things are about to get more chaotic as the rest of the dogs charge in to save their lunch. Whatever plans they had left to tail the lions are dead now. Their cover has been blown, but the meal may or may not be worth it depending on how this little tugging game plays out.

This conversation between Tansy and Sturgeon took a dark turn really fast. I do get where Tansy is coming from in wanting to disable Skua for a while so Sturgeon can talk sense back into Trout. The way things are going now, a ton of Daisys will starve out in the forest when winter arrives and The Family doesn’t give a damn. That said, I’m glad Sturgeon pushed back on the idea of disabling him. Her grand plans have done more harm than good to her siblings, and attacking the queen’s Lionheart is too risky.
One, it’s uncertain that Tansy could actually best Skua in a fight and might just end up getting herself maimed or killed. Two, there’s no way Trout would leave his side, even if he was injured. He’d have to be held captive somewhere. And once he healed up or got free, then what? There’s no guarantee Trout wouldn’t go right back to taking his advice. Three, if Skua got killed during the attempt to hurt him, Trout would unravel even further.
Anyway, I’m down with Sturgeon trying to take sense into the queen and firmly rejecting the “break Skua’s leg” plan. Even so, her plan to ask Hake to come home and apologize to Trout isn’t great either. Yes, it’s miles better than scheming violence, but asking her brother to do anything for their sister is a massive slap in the face given how things turned out with Tusk. Tansy is appropriately horrified at the suggestion. But our protagonist has to at least try. I’m just hoping things don’t go further off the rails for The Family and the Daisys who recently joined while she’s gone.

I am deeply suspicious of Agent Jackson’s eagerness to have the Away team continue their moon mission despite the clear danger Krizman presents. Worse, he’s given the order for the team to eliminate the fox. We know how well fighting the Black Idol went even with a spear on hand. Most people don’t survive the encounter unless they’re really lucky. So does Jackson have some sort of trick up his sleeve or is he desperate?
I’m still impressed that Krizman’s body isn’t attacking. So I’m going to double down on my theory that it is trying to get Melissa to lower her guard enough to make the device she’s using ineffective. Given her shocked expression, the Black Idol’s words might be getting to her. I hope she remembers her own conviction and anger at being a part of it soon, otherwise this mission might see a total party wipe.

I’ve said it several times before, and I’ll say it again, everything on this page tells me that Ocean is running a cult. While his members like Clover (she’s named in the author’s description on DeviantArt) put on a happy face, and pretend all is well, things are likely much darker behind the scenes. It’s the little things like Ocean being a freak about being clean or Clover blaming herself for actions beyond her control. I’m willing to bet Ocean is nice and charming when all is well, but once something displeases him, he becomes a monster.
I’m hoping Tulpi doesn’t have the displeasure of crossing paths with him, or if she does, her time in his presence is brief.

So we’re still in the past, and the red gleam on the moon was actually a sign from God. Here’s our reminder that Antaras used to be a God-Caller. Though as stated a few pages ago, Northerners don’t really care for religion. So I can see why the leader of the March is slightly amused and standoffish toward Antaras. It’s her March, and she’s done it so many times that without an obvious sign of danger she’s keeping to the schedule.
That said, comfort can breed arrogance and I suspect everyone not heeding Antaras’s warnings will regret it later. Weather can start out nicely, but then a massive storm could blow in, catching everyone off guard. Or Karuna could stir up trouble as punishment for his God-Caller not convincing the herd to stay. I’m not convinced the god is completely benevolent. At this point, I can see the temptation for the buck and his family to stay behind, but the March leader knows the lay of the land. I can see them wagering that the risk of staying behind is greater than the unknown waiting for them ahead.
I’m guessing this will be the incident where everything goes so badly. If anything happens to Oudia here, Antaras will likely blame himself for not being a better God-Caller.

I think I’ve said everything I want to about Marduk and his unconvincing villain arc. I’m done on that front for now. So he’d kill the pack just to have Kainan bow rather than finding willing worshipers. Also, Kainan essentially agrees to bow, yet the former Sky God is still strangling him? He needed to be shown being that small-minded and evil? It’d be one thing if Marduk said something like “I don’t believe you,” or “too late!” but this extra aggression doesn’t fit Kainan’s acceptance. On another note, I’m doubtful that anyone in the Asmundr pack is in any danger of dying despite how bad the blood looks. If no one died during the Shield Wolf war back in Asmundr, they’re likely not going to do so now. Also, how did Rhov reach Feaf’s side so quickly? Wasn’t he chasing after Marduk?
Speaking of Marduk, his scrawny arms just look so unrealistic. I’m having a hard time believing that he can just easily lift Kainan, a full-grown large dog with just one arm. Kainan’s forelegs have more muscle definition in them than the alien dog’s arms. For this to work, I’m going to assume he has unnatural, genetically-engineered strength to show how freaky and alien he is despite his emaciated-looking body.
Of course the sun has to be rising here so Jahla can have her epic entrance. (Never mind the fact that the pack waited until the morning to run. No wonder they were found out so quickly!) Anyway, I’m kind of tired of the trope where a character screams an opponent’s name, then strike a cool pose before they attack. I kind of wish if Jahla were going to scream his name, she was already in mid-attack, catching him off guard. Alas, that would make too much sense for Home.

yeah, in terms of marduke/ skin walker types. you either go hard janky with long limbs and “broken” sections or go normal with slight odditys. if you go way too middle you get something that just looks stupid and very unintimidating.
his heads too puny for his body. theirs no muscle or enough odditys to make his grabbing of kianan intimidating/ believable.
I kinda wish Kique had done more research in regards to this. Or maybe he was just trying to put an original spin on it, but the end result isn’t good.
