I know I mulled over skipping this week’s round up. After some thought, I’ve decided that I’m definitely skipping this week’s round up. I went out to our local Renaissance Faire on Saturday, and came home feeling under the weather. While I don’t feel any worse, I certainly don’t feel any better. So instead of not having a round up at all, I’ll just share what I wrote on Wednesday. Since Africa was the only comic that updated on Wednesday, it’s the only comic I wrote about.
Next week I’ll continue with the newest pages from the comics I’m following.

Elsewhere in the crater, the pack of African Wild Dogs are on the hunt as they dig at the base of a tree. The pups, Kitendo, Thabiti, and Fikra, are now young adults. (Yes, I did have to go back and look up their names, as I’d mostly forgotten about them.) Kitendo gives her(?) siblings the weather forecast. Blue skies, not a trace of clouds, and no rain for at least the next week. They would be perfect hunting conditions if not for the 118-dogree heat, and the noticeable lack of prey. Sarcastically, Kitendo calls the prospects nice as she turns her attention to Thab. Her siblings have at least successfully dug up a large hare.
If I’m being honest, I was hoping to see Africa and Mosi’s talk, or Bibi and Mondo’s talk. Arven is fond of switching scenes after a while to see how the rest of the cast is doing. We haven’t seen a lot of the African Wild Dogs since they were introduced way back on page 136, and were seen after the five-month time skip. Their hunts are a good reminder of how things are not going well in terms of finding prey in the crater. Also, how working in a group as predators might be more beneficial than hunting alone. After all, the dogs are one of the few groups seen having successful hunts.
I do like how these dogs phrase everything in military and technical terms. “Dogree heat” just makes me chuckle. As an American, I’m glad that those units of measurement track pretty well with Fahrenheit, as I don’t need to convert them from Celsius. (A 118F day isn’t something that I’ve experienced since I spent a few years living a desert climate. It’s burning hot.) I’m also curious to see what other purpose could there be for switching the point of view back to the young siblings. Perhaps through their eyes, we’ll see more of the crater at large or maybe a view of the herds migrating. I wonder if there’s a chance they also run into Chui? Who knows. It’s a bit too soon to tell where this current scene is going.
