Let’s talk about the last few pages of Kique 7 aka Kique Nordin’s Home. I was a big fan of Home up until about a year ago. In the past year and a half, the plot has gone exactly nowhere and character choices make almost no sense. Kique has always stated that he wrote the majority of Home’s plot before the first page was posted. That said, it’s been clear for quite some time that he’s been writing it on the fly as each page is posted. This means characters often contradict their earlier actions, and lately much of the cast has been out of character.
Ferah in particular is one great example. In the latest round of pages, 491 to 495 she’s been upset with Kargo. He was banished from the Midnightgarde Tribe after killing two merchants. Jarl Fjordor of the tribe sent bounty hunters after him. Supposedly worried for his safety, Ferah left the tribe and Fjordor, whom she had been crushing hard on to go with Kargo. The latter never asked her to come with him. On page 492 she snaps at Kargo. This page broke me and in my frustration, I wrote this to CCS (Comic Critic Squad):
What the hell is this page? Kargo did not force Ferah to come with him (he didn’t even ask her to come), and she’s free to return to the Midnightgarde Tribe whenever she wants. Essentially, Ferah’s blaming Kargo for a decision SHE willingly made. It’s not Kargo’s fault that he didn’t insist she stay at Midnightgarde and if she feels this way, she should just turn around and return to the first home she’s had. Why make him feel bad at every opportunity? It’s clear he regrets his actions and the consequences he’s now facing.
Another thing that pisses me off is that Ferah is supposed to know Kargo better than anyone. He clearly hasn’t been himself since losing his first love, yet she never asks once asks him what’s wrong. I guess she was too busy lusting after Jarl F-your-door to notice her supposed best friend was suffering. I’m also rolling my eyes at the fact that she only feels anger during a supposedly selfless act that reeks of selfishness. Creating disgustingly selfish characters that Kique parades around as selfless is his only talent as a writer.
Speaking of consequences, Kargo is made to pay hell and feel regret, yet Roamer and Rogio are rarely made to feel bad about their actions, especially the latter. It just makes no sense that Kargo is being panted as the bad guy by some fans given that he’s one of the few characters who tries to make things right. (Freeing the sex slaves, telling Roamer about Ronja, etc.)
At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if Kique has Kargo die in the process of cleaning up Rogio’s mess by taking down Avanti after he returns to the Meteor Tribe because Rogio couldn’t be bothered to confront Ranach.
While I was angry at Ferah for blaming Kargo for his decision, this is another decision I take issue with on these latest Home pages. Ferah and Kargo decide to return to the Meteor Tribe, a place where they were abused and used as sex slaves. Kargo rebelled, freed the slaves, and fled along with Ferah. Even though the tribe has changed thanks to a second rebellion and the banishment of the corrupt jarl, this is still a place filled with bad memories for the two. It just makes no sense that they would return to the source of their trauma.
Additionally, the story has been going around in circles for a year. A high point of Home was moving away from the Meteor Tribe and learning about other tribes on the island of Aedra. I thought this story would be about the main character Roamer, along with Kargo and Ferah learning and seeing the world. Instead they’ve all returned to this tribe and the story has grounded to a halt.
Why I put up with Home and Kique’s lackluster writing is beyond me. I guess this story once had potential and I’m just curious to see how this train-wreck ends.

[…] a big thank you to everyone who liked my last post, and to those of you who followed me. I didn’t think my little rant about Home would be so […]
